A Normal Day

“Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.”

― Mary Jean Irion

This summer we didn't stop. Like every summer, we pack our weeks with trips and friends and camps, but this summer we traveled for so many of our adventures, and often it was just me and the three of you. I look at this moment and feel incredibly proud of you three. How easy and fun you have made all this chaotic moving about. You have been my best travel buddies and I am so thankful.

yesterday afternoon as we pulled away from the carline, you said, "i made a friend today. i smiled at her and she smiled back at me.  she has the best smile.  she told me not to worry because she would be my friend.  when she said that my heart felt so happy i didn’t know what to say.  i was just speechless.”  i know of nothing that makes my heart happier than sharing in the triumphs of my children as they navigate all these uncharted waters. absolutely nothing.
