True Home Sessions

I've got some big news. I've had some clarity. I've been so damn fortunate in so many ways on this wild ride of family photography, but here's the thing . . . out of all the families and sessions, weddings, head shots . . . there is one thing that I love above all and one thing I'm pretty darn good at. Family photojournalism.

In late 2015, I rolled out the True Home Sessions. True Home Sessions are either half-day or full-day photographic experiences where I come to your home and document your life the way it is. I seek out all the little moments and connections that tell the bigger story of your love, in a setting that just can't be beat: your home. These are not polished images with sweeping vistas. These are photos of life in all it's real, raw glory. It's the photography I do with my family everyday and what I want to offer exclusively to you.

So, gone are the Basic Family Sessions. I will no longer be taking these on. (If you have already booked something with me for 2016, I am honoring these sessions, but I will not take on anymore new Basic Sessions from here on out.) If you are looking for classic family portraiture at the beach or park, where everyone needs to stay neat and clean, and everyone has to look at the camera and smile . . . whelp, I no longer do that. I understand that I might lose some clients because of this change, but if you stick with me and have trusted me this far for your photographic needs hear me out on why the True Home Session truly is the best of both worlds and guaranteed to give you images to cherish for a lifetime and more.

Because of their length, we have options to have the session at your home for the entirety or to venture out on a regular family activity. For those of us with little ones, it seems like a no-brainer to keep them close to home and their creature comforts and record some of the days and details that vanish from our memory in such a short time. But you still want beach photos? Well, we can do that, but first we start from home and then we go to the beach, and you treat it like a regular beach day and not some stylized photo shoot, ya dig? And you still want some family portraits? I can do that, but they are not the main purpose of this experience, and you have to be cool with it maybe happening in your bedroom, or the kitchen, the yard or on a walk.

But my home is so _______________. (Insert some negative adjective.)

No. No it is not. Your home is beautiful. Your home is safe. Your home is yours and yours alone and it means everything to everyone who lives there. So please, (please, please, please) get past comparing your home to the Jones' and invite me in. Let the kids dress themselves and express themselves. Let me photograph the real messes, the tears, the tub-time, the yard work, the pets, the art on the fridge, the clashes and the cuddles. Believe in me to find the beauty and humanity in it all.

I understand that this move isn't going to be for everyone. I'll miss some of you and would be happy to introduce you to some fabulous photographers who make gorgeous, traditional family portraiture. If this sounds like something you'd really like to try, something that sounds like it could be fun, relaxed, silly and special, then please hit me up and let's schedule something for late 2016. Curious? Have questions? I'll help you out with anything and everything. Contact me! I'm truly looking forward to capturing the heart of your home: You and yours.
